Packed Sandwiches in Pershing Square

On Thursday, June 4th, a team from the Hope for Homeless Youth ministry carpooled to downtown Los Angeles, carrying bags full of sandwiches and snacks to distribute to the homeless who were lounging in Pershing Square. Pershing Square is a tourist attraction, known for its winter ice-skating rink as well as outdoor concerts. However, it is also the meeting place for various destitute people who have no place to live.

Right outside of the high rise buildings and business districts, those who have lost their jobs and are unable to work pass the time by sitting on the benches and soaking in the sunshine. One woman, disheveled with trash next to her, asked if it was twelve o’clock when it was actually about three thirty in the afternoon.

Hope for Homeless Youth not only brought 50 sandwiches on Thursday afternoon to these famished individuals, but more importantly brought the love of God to those who were desperate for it. Homeless men and women received prayer for various concerns and were able to speak openly with their newfound friends. The Pershing Square ministry is fairly new to Hope for Homeless Youth, but they have gone out regularly on Thursday afternoons to meet the tangible and spiritual needs of others.
