Adopt A Block is one of the first and most fundamental outreaches of the Dream Center. It was a starting place for much of what was developed over the last nine years since the Dream Center was founded. The heart of Adopt A Block truly represents the heart of the Dream Center's leadership. By getting out into the community, meeting people in their homes and neighborhoods where they live, we are truly able to find their needs and help them meet them.

Restoring a sense of pride, Adopt A Block is sort of a "jack-of-all-trades" ministry, from taking food to families, to helping them do yard work they don't have the tools to do, from grafitti removal and community clean up through the worst neighborhoods in L.A., to jump roping with kids on the street.

Each Saturday hundreds of volunteers go out and visit homes around the city, talking with elderly people who are lonely, sharing the love of Christ with famliles in need, and also helping care for the basic needs they are facing.

Many are working families that cannot overcome the poverty surrounding them, doing their best to pay for shelter or keep their home. We are able to help with food for their families as well as for their pets, supply diapers, or just lend a hand with housework they may have difficulty getting to. In turn, many of those we help, go out with us to help their neighbors as well.

We are able to build on and further our Saturday outreach by following up throughout the week and running programs to help provide for people's needs in some of the hardest areas in the city. From Skid Row, where we work with kids and adults who are homeless, to special movie nights and princess parties for the little kids who are homeless, our Adopt A Block program literally grows and changes each week as we find a new need and invent a more creative way to reach out.
