New Year, Healthier you

by Jan 28, 2022

As we ring in the new year, most of us probably have the same goals—exercising, eating better, and pursuing a healthier lifestyle. While it is easy to start the year with the intention of being healthy, it is difficult at times to choose to keep up with a healthier lifestyle. Most individuals will sign up for a membership at their local gym, or will start a juice cleanse, and while those things are good, the most important thing with starting the new year is doing what’s best for your body and overall health.

Fitness and healthy living is on trend amongst most millennials

Forty-five million adults have a gym membership (approximately fourteen percent of the population attend their local gym). With the new coronavirus variant on the rise, individuals are more likely to do workouts at home instead of attending the gym.

As a result, workout apps and at-home gym appliances are growing in popularity. Millennials have been called the wellness generation because they’re more likely to splurge on self-care, fitness, and healthy foods.

Most social media influencers and TikTokers are seen promoting “healthy living”, and millennials are more proactive and health conscious than their parents and grandparents.

Benefits of physical fitness

Did you know that consistent physical activity is one of the best things that you can do for your health and wellbeing? Not only has regular exercise been shown to help keep your thinking, learning, and judgment skills sharp as you age, it can also reduce your risk of depression and anxiety and help you sleep better! And the upside doesn’t stop there—the ceiling is nearly endless. Additional benefits from exercise include a lower likelihood of heart disease and diabetes, increased bone density and strengthened musculature, and a reduced risk of contracting numerous forms of cancer, including colon, breast, uterine, and lung cancer. That’s why here at the Dream Center we make the health of our residents such a high priority. We know how important an active lifestyle is to their emotional, mental, and physical recovery, and we’ve witnessed firsthand countless lives changed because of it.
